Opening Stock Checklist Before Starting Your ERP

Prepare a reliable starting point for inventory by matching item records, units and quantities to a dated physical count.

Choose a cutover date

Pick when the old records end and the new workspace begins. Avoid mixing transactions from both systems without a clear reconciliation. Save a backup of the old records.

Clean up the item list

Give each item a consistent name or code and confirm the unit of measure. Check for duplicated items, obsolete records and quantities entered in incompatible units.

Count and review

Compare a physical count with the quantities being imported. Review opening values with the person responsible for accounts. Keep the count sheet and the reasons for any adjustments.

Verify before the first live sale

Use the import preview, check totals and sample individual items. Confirm that the opening stock report matches the approved starting records. Keep a backup before posting new transactions.
